چکیده

In this paper, we consider trading with proportional transaction costs as in Schachermayer’s paper of 2004. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for A, the cone of claims attainable from zero endowment, to be closed. Then we show how to define a revised set of trading prices in such a way that firstly, the corresponding cone of claims attainable for zero endowment, Ã, does obey the Fundamental Theorem of Asset Pricing and secondly, if à is arbitrage-free then it is the closure of A. We then conclude by showing how to represent claims. Final version: June 24, 2008

Super-Hedging and Arbitrage Pricing in Markets with Transaction Costs and Trading Constraints

The arbitrage pricing principle has been used to derive price relations like the Black-Scholes formula and Heath-Jarrow-Morton models in the context of frictionless markets and unconstrained trading. These relations may or may not be good approximations to reality. Even if, they are certainly not enforced by real world arbitrage because of transaction costs and trading constraints. Recently, re...

Arbitrage-Free Models in Markets with Transaction Costs

In the paper [7], Guasoni studies financial markets which are subject to proportional transaction costs. The standard martingale framework of stochastic finance is not applicable in these markets, since the transaction costs force trading strategies to have bounded variation, while continuoustime martingale strategies have infinite transaction cost. The main question that arises out of [7] is w...

Does Electronic Trading Improve Market Efficiency? Evidence from Spatial Arbitrage in the Automotive Market

Price disparities across locations can occur when sellers in one location have difficulty matching with buyers in a different location due to the transaction costs of trading across distance. Spatial arbitrageurs exploit these discrepancies by buying goods from locations where prices are low and reselling them at locations where prices are high. Electronic channels should lower the transaction ...

Facing an Arbitrage Opportunity: Trade or Wait?

In traditional thinking, an arbitrageur will trade immediately once an arbitrage opportunity appears. Is this the best strategy for the arbitrageur or it is even better to wait for the best time to trade so as to achieve the maximum profit? To answer this question, this paper studies the optimal trading strategies of an arbitrageur in a dynamic economy where the arbitrageur’s trades affect pric...

Office of Research Testing Marketing Efficiency using Statistical Arbitrage with Applications to Momentum and Value Strategies

This paper introduces the concept of statistical arbitrage, a long horizon trading opportunity that generates a riskless profit and is designed to exploit persistent anomalies. Statistical arbitrage circumvents the joint hypothesis dilemma of traditional market efficiency tests because its definition is independent of any equilibrium model and its existence is incompatible with market efficienc...
